Capture Emails with the Chrome Extension
Beefree App is now RGE Studio!
The email design suite you already know and love just leveled up. We’re working hard to update our help center, but you still may see some references to the old product name.
This article applies to the Inspiration Gallery in all plans.
Overview
Really Good Emails / Capture! is a Chrome extension that saves emails from your inbox to the Inspiration Gallery. You can use it to capture an email from Gmail or Outlook, or upload .eml and .html files. Really Good Emails (RGE) / Capture! checks every email for personal details before you save it.
You get the same two choices as Upload emails to Really Good Emails:
- Send an email to the public gallery
- Keep it in your own personal gallery
Install and Sign In
You need Chrome 114 or later and an RGE Studio account. To create an account, sign up for free.
Install RGE Capture! from the Chrome Web Store. Then pin it to your toolbar:
- Select the puzzle-piece icon at the top right of Chrome.
- Select the pin next to Really Good Emails / Capture!
- Select the RGE Capture! icon. The panel opens on the right side of Chrome.
Select Sign in to RGE in the panel. An RGE Studio tab opens. Log in there if needed. On the Connect RGE Capture to Really Good Emails page, select Allow. The tab closes, and the panel is ready to use.
RGE Capture! never sees your password. It uses a short-lived key that expires within an hour. The key can only see your username, save emails, and submit emails for curation.
The key renews on its own while you're logged in to RGE Studio. To stop this from happening, log out of RGE Studio. A key that was already issued works until it expires.
Capture an Email
Choose where you want to capture an email from:
- Gmail: Open the email. Select the coral Capture button in the message header.
- Outlook on the web: Open the email at outlook.live.com (personal accounts) or outlook.office.com (work and school accounts). Select Capture in the row of actions at the top of the message.
- A file: Drag .eml or .html files onto the Upload an email card in the panel. You can also select Browse files. Each file can be up to 25 MB.
In Gmail or Outlook, you can also open the panel and select Capture this email. RGE Capture! reads an email only when you select Capture. If you upload several files at once, you review them one at a time.
Review Details
Each email opens on the Review & send card. The card shows the email's subject line and source file above a preview. Select Expand to see a larger preview.
Real emails often contain your personal details, such as your name or address. Clean personal details is on by default. The green note below it lists what RGE Capture! removes before saving. This can include tracking pixels and unsubscribe links.
Automated checks can miss unusual details. Look over the preview before you save. If you spot something personal, select discard. To edit the HTML before you submit, use Upload instead. Its Code tab lets you edit the email.
Save or Submit
Under Destination, choose where the email goes:
- RGE curation: Sends the email to the public gallery. Our team reads every submission by hand and replaces personal details with placeholders. Select Submit email.
- Private only: Saves the email to your own private gallery. Select Save email.
When the panel shows “It's in!”, select View it to open the email in RGE Studio. Select Capture another to keep going. Your latest captures appear under Recent captures in the panel. That list stays on your computer.
Public submissions go into the same review queue as emails sent from Upload. See After you submit for more info. To take an email down or replace it, email support@reallygoodemails.com.
Settings
Select the three-dot menu ⋮ at the top of the extension panel, then Settings.
- Account: See who you're signed in as, or select Sign out.
- Appearance: Choose Light, Dark, or Auto to match your system setting.
- Keyboard shortcut: Select Configure to open Chrome's shortcuts page. Set your shortcut under RGE Capture.
- Data: Clear the Recent captures list.
Troubleshooting
- "Your RGE sign-in ended." You logged out of RGE Studio, or the key expired while you were logged out. Select Sign in to RGE again.
- "The site is signed in to a different account now." Someone logged in to RGE Studio with another account in this browser. Sign in again with the account you want.
- "The sign-in tab is still waiting." A sign-in tab is still open. Finish signing in there, or close it and select Sign in to RGE again.
- No Capture button in Gmail or Outlook. Refresh the Gmail or Outlook tab. The button appears only in tabs opened after you install or update RGE Capture!. You can also use Capture this email in the panel, or save the email as a file and upload it.
- A file was skipped. RGE Capture! accepts .eml and .html files up to 25 MB.
- Images are missing from the preview. The preview loads images from the sender's servers. Images the sender removed or blocked won't appear.
